Network upgrade is a recurring activity on Ethereum aimed at improving various aspects of the network to make the protocol better over time.
EIP-4844 is the most important EIP in DenCun. It introduces a new type of transaction format called “blob-carrying transaction”, benefiting involved parties including users, rollup, and Ethereum.
Rollups can use the new transaction format to post data to Ethereum. It provides more space at a lower cost than the traditional calldata method.
In addition to EIP-4844, DenCun also implements EIP-7514 as a temporary solution to address the overload issue on the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) layer.
Once DenCun is completed, Ethereum can focus more on the execution layer in the next upgrade with the Verkle tree. Ethereum can also provide a more comprehensive solution to address the overload issue on the P2P layer.
